Picone Farm Tree

Picone Farm Tree

Sometimes when plein air painting, you arrive at the paint-out location, and instantly a vignette jumps out and says, "paint me!"   With luck, there are even multiple worthy scenes that jump out.  Almost as often, however, the site is scenic, but a little monotonous, or even what you might call boring.    I've come to realize though, that in these cases, the painting can become the star and overcome any monotony.  Pumped up color, a particularly bold brushstroke, or some thick swirls of harmonious or complementary pigment transforms what could be mundane into a pleasing painting.   This was exactly the case with an ordinary tree painting done at Picone Farm in Middleboro.   I was on a very pretty trail with autumn golds all around, but yet nothing jaw dropping was evident to me.    This tree and rickety old gate got the nod, and I can attest that the painting does justice to the autumn scene, I think - I hope :).
